His sound is something totally unique; it's very much rooted in Brazil, but transcends musical and national boundries at the same time. He is also unique in that his sound evolves by leaps and bounds with each release. One upshot of that is that in challenging himself, he constantly challenges his audience as well. Past releases have cannibalized elements of samba, folk, funk, metal, and practically anything else that can be thrown into the blender. He's close in spirit to the Tropicalistas, though his sound takes their experiments very much to the next level. The disc is full of surprises from start ("O Atirador," penned by Lulu Santos) to finish (Lenine's own hit "Jack Soul Brasileiro," which has cropped up on a few releases). The arrangements vary greatly from their original versions, but they always gain something over the originals. "Hoje eu Queiro Sair So" has more in common with Daude's later cover version than with Lenine's own original; "O Homem Dos Olhos de Raio X" abandons the future funk of the Living Color-backed original in favor of something still looser and more old-school sounding; "A Medida da Paixao" features a haunting guest appearance by Richard Bona. I could list more great qualities of the individual tracks, but really, you're better off hearing the disc on your own and discovering something new for yourself, whether you're an old fan or not. Incidentally, if you fall into the latter category (ie. you're new to the artist), I'd recommend starting here rather than with the Six Degrees-issued Best Of. It's a good collection, but it will end up being redundant if you decide that you like Lenine's music--you'll end up wanting the back catalog. And on the strength of this set, I think that's a very strong possibility. On the other hand, if you're a long-time fan, the CD is essential to trace Lenine's evolution, and just might be an indication of where he's headed next.

The follow-up album to the highly successful Appalachia Waltz collaboration, Appalachian Journey continues the combination of classical music with Appalachian, bluegrass, and American roots music in general. Yo-Yo Ma, alongside violinist Mark O'Connor and bass player Edgar Meyer, runs through a number of original compositions fusing the traditions, as well as a few old standards from the genre repertoire. As stated by the artists, Appalachia Waltz explored the combination of the three artists' sounds put together, while Journey expands upon this theme, exploring the sound of the three artists as a singular group. Joining with the trio are James Taylor on a pair of works (on both guitar and vocals) and Alison Krauss on fiddle and vocals. The vocalists are added specifically on a pair of old Stephen Foster works, the songs themselves thematically bridging the gap between the classical and folk realms. The tone can change easily from cheerful jigging to outright nostalgic, depending largely on who's doing the soloing at any given time. There's an embracing down-home atmosphere set up by the artists, using warm tones and motives throughout the album. At the same time, the trio displays some remarkable virtuosity (as would be expected from this group), burning through some fiery sets of triplets on otherwise slow instruments (the cello and bass, specifically), but keeping up with the violin while avoiding the easily hit distortion sounds that usually come from high speed, low frequency playing. Reels fit easily with waltzes here, and also with traditional songs with virtuosic passages from original compositions. The old and the older are easily made compatible here largely on the strength of the performers involved. It's a worthwhile album for listeners curious about the newer directions being taken in the classical realm.

Teaser and the Firecat is an album released by Cat Stevens in 1971. It contains 10 songs including hits such as "Morning Has Broken," "Moonshadow," and "Peace Train." It is also the title of a children's book written and illustrated by Cat Stevens. The story features the title characters from the album cover, top-hatted young Teaser and his pet Firecat, who attempt to put the moon back in its place after it falls from the sky. Published in 1972, the book has been out of print since the mid-1970s.

Tea for the Tillerman is a highly-regarded album by singer-songwriter Cat Stevens. This album, Stevens' second during 1970, includes many of Stevens' most memorable and beloved songs by his fans, including "Where Do the Children Play?," "Hard Headed Woman," "Wild World," "Sad Lisa," "Into White" and "Father and Son." Four of the tracks ("Where Do the Children Play?", "On the Road to Find Out", "Tea for the Tillerman" and "Miles from Nowhere") were featured in the Hal Ashby and Colin Higgins' black comedy film entitled Harold and Maude, in 1971, gaining Stevens more fans long afterward. The track "But I Might Die Tonight" was featured on another 1971 film: Deep End by Jerzy Skolimowski. Stevens, a former art student, created the artwork featured on the record's cover.

Antony exercises a lot more restraint on this disc and the tone is for the most part reflective and somber. A lot of the comments here voice their support for this approach which is both pleasing and surprising because 'The Crying Light' is nowhere near as instantly accessible as `I am a Bird Now'. If there is a criticism to be made it is that the album is a bit one paced and moments of light amongst the shade are few and far between. `Kiss My Name' and `Aeon' (I love the red herring intro) are like shining beacons and without them the whole project would have been far too bleak. This is not to say that these are the strongest songs - I'd rate scene setting opener `Her Eyes...', trademark ballad `One Dove', elemental hymn `Another World' and sweet closer `Everglade' as the highlights.

Sounds of Silence is an album by Simon and Garfunkel, released on January 17, 1966. The album's title is a slight modification of the title of the duo's first major hit, "The Sounds of Silence," which was released previously on the album Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M., and also on the soundtrack to the movie The Graduate. It was taken from their debut and electric instruments and drums were overdubbed by Bob Dylan's studio band on June 15, 1965 and released in September 1965 as a single. "Homeward Bound" was released on the album in the UK. It was also released as part of the box set Simon & Garfunkel Collected Works, on both LP and CD.
