Kitchens of Distinction - Discography
Kitchens of Distinction's singer-songwriter-bassist Patrick Fitzgerald is thoughtful, unapologetic and sexually active, unabashedly in love with love and not much interested in self-loathing. The Kitchens are by no means musical revolutionaries.
Possessed of a strident and unripe voice, Fitzgerald alternates expository prose with imagist verse, most of it magnificently sad.

Introducing: The Antlers
Volchano Choir - Unmap
A collection of songs that are as lush as they are layered and equal parts haunting and warm. Just when you think that this is going to be a sparse, finger-pickin' folk set, it turns left with a few surprising pop underpinnings and florid choruses. This album feels intimate, yet opens up to a wide expanse of "grand sounds".

My Bloody Valentine / Feed Me With Your Kiss
Cocteau Twins / Heaven or las vegas
My Bloody Valentine / Isn't Anything

Three years before 1991's Loveless, My Bloody Valentine's masterwork of impossibly dense soundscapes, the Dublin quartet offered some fairly affecting dream pop on its first full-length album, Isn't Anything. Both worthy of Creation's "shoe-gazing" heritage and skewed enough to stand up next to pre-grunge guitar bands like Sonic Youth and the Pixies, the record makes the most of a group that hadn't yet found its bearings. And at its best, Isn't Anything hints at how great it will be when their sonic discoveries are finally honed. --Roni Sarig

Blood - This Mortal Coil

TMC is the baby of producer Ivo, main man at 4AD records, which has released a lot of great music from a lot of great musicians: we're talking Pixies, Breeders, Throwing Muses, Dead Can Dance, Cocteau Twins (previously recommended), Wolfgang Press, Colourbox.
"Blood" is largely a tighter group of instrumental musicians, with vocalists being: predominantly Deirdre Rutkowski; then Caroline Crawley; and then a couple by Alison Limerick, and the excellent "You and Your Sister" with Kim Deal (Pixies/Breeders) and Tanya Donnelly (Throwing Muses/Breeders/Belly).
Note: old Pink Floyd/Syd Barrett fans might want to take note of the cover of Barrett's "Late Night." Barrett's original recording is marred by his dysfunctionality; here, it's a total work of art.

Blonde Redhead / Misery is a Butterfly

This album is full of charm with it's wonderful strings, gorgeous instrumental flourishes and keyboards.
Blonde Redhead has found their true sound with 'Misery Is A Butterfly' - Darkly romantic and atmospheric, a kind of sadness in some ways.
If you are new to Blonde Redhead I suggest getting this one first. It is better then earlier 90s releases of theirs.
